Conchita Espinosa STAR Students

Conchita Espinosa Academy is proud to announce its students chosen to represent the school in the STARs program.  These students have been chosen for outstanding achievement in academics, sports, community service, effort and improvement.  The following students have been inducted: Gabriela Mederos, Sara Gaya, and Katherine Sanford.

Conchita Espinosa Academy’s Grand Ball

April 2012-Hear Ye, Hear Ye!  Conchita Espinosa Academy’s second grade classes had their Fourth Annual Grand Ball to culminate their lessons on Fairy Tales.  There were many princesses and princes who celebrated this magical event.  These second graders made a great entrance on a red carpet and danced a choreographed waltz.  The second grade teachers Mrs. Llerena, Mrs. Torres, Mrs. Fernandez along with various volunteer moms, worked endlessly to make the event a memorable experience.  The teachers also joined in the fun.  It was a magical day!

Gerard Ebitz comes to Conchita Espinosa

                Gerard Ebitz visited Conchita Espinosa Academy to teach a Master Class on Friday, April 27th. Ebitz has been a ballet professor at New World School of the Arts since 1988. He was formerly part of the New York City Ballet, a founding dancer of the Miami City Ballet, and a former principal of the Pacific Northwest and Zurich Ballet.

Congratulations to Nicole Valmana for National Silver Key





Nicole Valmana, a Conchita Espinosa Academy 8th grader, has earned national recognition in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of 2012, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.  Nicole has been identified by panels of professional artists and writers as one of the most talented young artists and writers in the nation.  This year, 200,000 works of art and writing were submitted for this contest. Only the top 1,500 were recognized at the national level and only the top 11% received awards. Nicole and two guests have been invited to New York to attend a special awards ceremony on June 1 at the world famous Carnegie Hall. We are very proud of Nicole and her art teacher, Debbie Marlin.

Ana Maria Jaramillo Visits Cafe at Conchita




Public Relations Advisory at Conchita Espinosa Academy invited Ana Maria Jaramillo to “Café at Conchita.”  Ms. Jaramillo is a journalist for El Tiempo  and the author of Twitter para Todos and Redes Sociales para Todos.


Third Grade Pioneer Day




As part of the third grade curriculum at Conchita Espinosa Academy, students celebrated Frontier Day.  Students in third grade re-enacted a day in the life of the pioneers and the trail guides helped direct students from other classes to different part of the living museum.  Students visited and learned about the homestead, wagons, a one-room school house, the railroads, gold mines, and the Lewis and Clark Expeditions. 

            Eighth Grade Goes to Disney





In Conchita Espinosa Academy , the 8th grade visited Disney’s Magic Kingdom on as part of their annual class trip. They rode all the rides including Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion. It was a magical trip!

Fourth Grade Visits St. Augustine


February 2012- Conchita Espinosa Academy’s fourth grade class visited St. Augustine as part of their studies on the history of Florida.  Students visited the Old Jail, the Museum, Castillo de San Marco, and the Fountain of Youth.

National Jr. Art Honor Society


Dance Advisory Competes in Orlando



On February 25th, Conchita Espinosa Academy’s dance advisories performed in the Cathy Roe Competition in Orlando, FL. Group numbers, “Mandala”, “Kaleidoscope”, and “Wisteria” won platinum and first place in their categories. Ms. Danella their dance teacher won the Choreography Award and “Mandala” placed second for highest score in the entire competition of over 200 dances. Congratulations to the dancers and their wonderful teacher.

Hoop It Up


Conchita Magazine celebrated its annual Hoop it Up tournament on February 17th.

Mr. Companioni Competed in the ING Marathon


February 2012-On January 31, 2012, Conchita Espinosa Academy’s own history middle school teacher, Mr. Companioni, competed in the ING race and finished 26.2 miles. This was his first marathon which he completed in five hours.  More than 27,000 people participated. Congratulations!

Conchita Espinosa Academy’s Elementary soccer team has had a wonderful season. Frank Fernandez, VP of US Century Bank, Returns to Conchita Espinosa Academy


Februrary 2012- Frank Fernandez, Vice President of US Century Bank, visited Conchita Espinosa Academy on February 1, 2012 to speak to the middle school about finances.  Mr. Fernandez graduated from Conchita Espinosa Academy in 1980 and said, “I have attended many schools, but the one that has always felt like MY SCHOOL, is Conchita.”  The children enjoyed learning and having a question and answer session especially from someone who sat in their seats.  Mr. Fernandez was invited to “Café at Conchita” which is a lecture series created by the Public Relations advisory to promote community awareness.

National Music Honor Society: Tri-M Elects Executive Committee


Conchita Espinosa Academy’s National Music Honor Society elected its executive committee.  Under the direction of their mentor and choir director, Ms. Loly Lopez, eighth grader Giada Ludert is president, and eighth grader , Sara Gaya , is the vice president.  The secretary is Mariana Escobar and the treasurer is Eugenia Manrique.  The historian is Ima Silveira.

2nd Grade Celebrates Chinese New Year





The Conchita Espinosa Academy’s 2nd grade celebrated the annual Chinese New Year. After reading The Magic Tree House Series, The Day of the Dragon King, students learned geography, and enjoyed celebrating the beginnings of Chinese New Year with a parade including music and their hand made dragon masks. Many students dressed up in Chinese attire and ate delicious Chinese food!

Conchita Espinosa Academy 8th Grader First Book Signing





Benjamin Leon IV, an eighth grader at Conchita Espinosa Academy, recently published his first book Swords and Knives. Benji IV had his first book signing at the Conchita Espinosa Academy report card night. He will also be joining the middle school students in the month of February for “Lunch with the Author”. Benji IV’s book Swords and Knives is now available on Amazon books.

Conchita Prepares for Annual "Hoop it Up"

On February 17th, 2012 Conchita Magazine hosted its annual "Hoop it Up" basketball game and its 7th annual Spirit Day in which students.
 
Alex Burgos Visits 


On November 22, 2011 Mr. Alex Burgos, Communications Director for U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, came to speak to the middle school about his job. He shared how Conchita helped him become who is today. Mr. Burgos attended Conchita Espinosa Academy, Belen Jesuit Preparatory, and then went on to the University of Florida. He told us about a day in the life of a Communications Director. We listened to many stories about how fun it can be if you get into that profession. We enjoyed listening to him speak and hope he will come visit us again next year.

Life Cue Advisory Gives Back




Conchita Espinosa’s Life Cue Advisory collected 327 boxes for Camillus House. Ms. Sanchez and her dedicated students worked endless hours to help others in our community.

Senior Dance Advisory Visits Gainesville


It’s that time again! CEA’s Senior Dance Advisory, and selected Conservatory, Spanish Dance students attended the Florida Dance Festival on Tour at the Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, November 12 through 15.
This challenging and rewarding series of dance classes, informative discussions and networking opportunities has been created specifically for middle and high school dancers. Students will have the opportunity to work with some of Florida’s best dancers, choreographers, and performing artists. Classes include ballet, modern, tap, jazz, hip-hop, classical Indian, African, musical theatre, and Pilates. Workshop classes were available only to the participating students. The Florida Dance Festival on Tour concluded with a performance showcasing the talents of Jennifer Archibald and Arch Dance Company, Dance Theatre of Santa Fe, University of Florida School of Dance & workshop attendees at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Florida Campus.  Conchita's Senior Dance Advisory was invited once again to perform in the showcase.

Family Affair 2011



Conchita celebrated another wonderful Family Affair.  In the picture, the eighth graders gather to celebrate their kickball victory!

James and the Giant Peach


Ms. Loly and her talented theater group perfomed the production of James and the Giant Peach in the Rosita Segovia Theater.  It was a huge success.

Conchita Wins at the Academic Olympics


On October 26, 2011 Conchita Espinosa Academy participated in Christopher Columbus Academic Olympics.  Nicole Del Risco won gold for math.  Andres Artime won bronze for math.  David Andreu won a bronze medal in English.  Cesar Santalo and Catherine Guerra both won bronze medals in art.  Sofia Hernandez won a gold medal for history and Sara Gaya won silver.  Katherine Sanford won a gold medal in science and the general skills team which included Natalie Ponce, Catherine Magarino, Derek O'Brien and Cassandra Casanova won gold.  Great job Cougars! 


Conchita Espinosa Academy Wins at FIU Journalism Day


Alexa Frades from Conchita Espinosa Academy’s Public Relations Advisory won first place at the FIU 39th Annual Journalism Day on October 22, 2011.  David Andreu from Conchita Magazine won 3rd place.  CTV won in their category for a 5 minute video clip.  Students from Public Relations, CTV, Conchita Magazine and yearbook participated in a number of helpful journalism workshops.  The on the spot writing contest featured the key note speaker of the event, Gabriel Gabor, a public relations professional.  Students needed to write a feature story immediately after a short question and answer session once the key note speaker had concluded his remarks. They did a wonderful job!


Conchita Espinosa Academy’s Advisories Visit Leon Medical Centers












Conchita Espinosa Academy’s Public Relations and CTV advisories visited Leon Medical Centers on October 5th, 2011.  Students met with CEO and President, Benjamin Leon III, and his executive team.  They learned about the public relations functions as well as the wonderful services Leon Medical Center provides the community. 
Students enjoyed white glove services on the Leon Medical bus, breakfast and lunch, and received generous promotional gifts.  The students felt  “Atención personal en todo momento.”

Conchita's Junior Varsity Volleyball team wins league championship.  The winning team includes: Lilly Garcia, Fabiola Abraldes, Sofia Gomez, Alyssa Soublette, Karen Chakour, Alana Abraldes, Oriana Yepes, and Nicole Ruiz-Sierra.

Conchita's Karate Students Win at Redland's Martial Arts Tournament



Conchita's Karate students participated on October 15th in the Annual Redland's Karate Tournament.  Alejandro Vigil from first grade, won 3rd place with his Kata -Wamsu.
